The department is in charge of the effective implementation of the public relations and marketing strategy for the Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM) that include:-

  • Communications and promotional activities that enhances the image of Zimbabwe School of Mines
  • Image and reputation management
  • Management of internal and external communications
  • Coordinating social responsibility activities and initiatives
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of collaborative partnerships
  • Institutional research, carrying out student and graduate exit and satisfaction surveys
  • Management and coordination of the ZSM Alumni activities
  • Management and implementation of the ZSM Gender Initiative Project

To note, the school has had an experience in twinning programmes with the Hailbury School of Mines of Canada in the previous years and plans are underway to have a twinning partnership with other mining schools around the world.

ii)    Academic Dispensation

 

Training

  • Trainees are treated as ‘workers’ not students.

Holidays

  • Student vacations are not holidays.  Vacations are used for Practical work.

 

Exposure

  • Study trips and field visits are built in each topic of the curriculum.

 

Practical work

  • All practical work is supervised, logged and signed for. The logbook is the best CV for a ZSM graduate.

 

The ZSM Practitioner

  • Students who successfully complete their log book and their HND practical project are awarded an Associateship of ZSM.  The insignia of being a ‘practitioner’

 

Modularisation

  • Industry personnel can come and join full time students on a module of their interest.
