The Zimbabwe School of Mines was established by a Presidential Charter, signed on 20 May 1994. The Institute is of a unique partnership between the Mining Industry represented by the Chamber of Mines and the Government represented by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.
ZSM was created to serve the regional Mining Industry. This has seen ZSM being the regional centre of excellence in training personnel for the mining industry.
The School is governed by a seasoned and experienced Board of Management, that consists of members nominated by various professional Mining Associations, Directors in the Ministry of Mines & Mining Development, representatives from other Institutions of Higher Learning and the SADC secretariat. Collectively the board brings in a pool of intellectuals who are executives, senior managers and administrators in their different organisations.
The participation of the mining industry in the formulation of policy and setting up of academic programs, regulations & standards makes the ZSM graduate, the most sort after human resource in the local, regional & international mining industry.
Various stakeholders namely the Chamber of Mines, the Government, including tuition fees and generous donations from corporate friends as well as individual members from the society fund the school.
ZSM believes in sharing knowledge and experiences with other educational and mining institutions. The School upholds the promotion of International Information exchange, partnerships and general networking.
