General Mandate

The section is responsible for providing a competent, market driven and superior service in Distance Learning and Further Education to the school, mining and mining related industries.

FED
  • Development and establishment of a fully-fledged consultancy and research unit for various aspects in mining, metallurgy, survey and geology; and to provide technical support services to the mining and construction industries.
  • Policing and enforcing the pre-qualification and practical industrial training programs for all disciplines.

The Distance Learning Centre (DLC) is responsible for providing a competent, market driven and superior service in Distance Learning, Further Education and Technical Services to the school and mining industry. It also administers distance learning to mining personnel unable to attend full time courses.

Currently the DLC offers tuition and support service for several formal qualifications, these are:

The Zimbabwe Government Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (ZGMMCC)
The Zimbabwe Government Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competency (ZGMSCC)
The Zimbabwe Government Mine Engineers Certificate of Competency (ZGMECC)
The Zimbabwe Government Mine Managers Diploma (ZGMMD)
The Zimbabwe Government Mine Engineers Diploma (ZGMED)

Candidates apply to the Chief Government Mine Engineer (CGME) for registration. Upon acceptance the candidate approaches the DLC for learning material and face-to-face tutorial support at regular intervals. Several modules (booklets) are available at the school of which candidates can purchase and use in the preparation for the above competency examinations.
